In March, our dedicated team members, Yemisi Efunnuga (Programmes Co-Ordinator) and Lesley Tarabina (Curriculum Development Co-Ordinator), embarked on a significant oversight trip to Ondo State, Nigeria, to assess and enhance our programs’ impact in the region. This journey marked a pivotal moment in our commitment to empowering girls through technology education.

W.TEC Academy, our after-school computer program for girls, has been making strides in Ondo State, with initiatives running in five public secondary schools. Since its inception, over 160 girls have participated, gaining valuable skills and knowledge in technology.

During the visit, our team conducted intensive “train the trainer” sessions, equipping instructors with the latest teaching methodologies and tools to ensure an enriching learning experience for the girls. Additionally, hands-on training sessions on scratch programming and renewable energy solutions, such as rechargeable lights and solar panels, were provided, fostering practical skills that are essential for the girls’ future endeavors.

Moreover, our representatives had the honor of meeting with esteemed officials from the Ondo State Ministry of Youths and Sports. The warm reception and appreciation expressed by the permanent secretary and director underscored the significance of our efforts in empowering the youth of Ondo State.

The collaboration with F5 has been instrumental in driving the success of W.TEC Academy in Ondo State, amplifying our reach and impact in nurturing the next generation of female leaders in STEM.

About W.TEC Academy:

Through a comprehensive curriculum encompassing programming, mobile application development, robotics, and more, we empower girls aged 10 to 17 from public schools across Nigeria to embrace technology and unleash their full potential.

As we reflect on our journey in Ondo State, we remain steadfast in our mission to bridge the gender gap in STEM education and create a brighter future for girls across Nigeria. Together, we will continue to inspire, educate, and empower.
