W.TEC Academy Set to Mark 2024 International Girls in ICT Day

In a world increasingly dominated by technology, it’s essential to empower young girls with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the digital age. That’s why on May 15th, 2024, W.TEC (Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre) is proud to mark International Girls in ICT Day with an exciting event designed to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of female leaders in technology.

This special event will feature a dynamic four-hour programme aimed at 270 girls from eight schools in Lagos State (Strictly participants of W.TEC Academy Only). These schools are part of W.TEC’s co-curricular computer program for secondary school girls, known as the W.TEC Academy.

Celebrating Girls in ICT Day

International Girls in ICT Day is a global initiative aimed at encouraging girls and young women to consider careers in information and communication technologies (ICT). It’s a day to celebrate the achievements of women in the tech industry and to inspire the next generation of female leaders in this field. At W.TEC, we’re committed to promoting gender equality in technology and empowering girls to pursue their passions in ICT.

What to Expect

The event on May 15th will be packed with engaging activities designed to ignite the girls’ interest in ICT and provide them with valuable insights into the world of technology. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store:

  1. Leadership Sessions: Inspirational talks and panel discussions led by accomplished women in the tech industry will highlight the importance of leadership and mentorship for aspiring young girls.
  2. Mentorship Sessions: The girls will have the opportunity to connect with mentors who will provide guidance, support, and encouragement as they navigate their educational and career paths in ICT.
  3. Career Talks: Industry professionals will share their experiences and expertise, offering valuable advice on career opportunities in ICT and the skills needed to succeed in this rapidly evolving field.

The W.TEC Academy is a collaborative effort between W.TEC and F5, Inc. It aims to equip secondary school girls in Lagos State with the essential computer skills and knowledge needed to thrive in today’s digital world. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and support, the W.TEC Academy empowers girls to become confident, skilled, and tech-savvy individuals.
