The W.TEC Academy recently held impactful mentorship sessions across Lagos and Kwara States, inspiring tech-enthusiastic girls from various secondary schools. These sessions provided the girls with valuable insights and guidance from accomplished women in STEM, fostering their passion and ambitions in the tech field. This nationwide initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in technology by empowering the next generation of female tech leaders.

Lagos State – Inspiring Future Female Innovators

Lagos, Nigeria – June 26, 2024 – W.TEC Lagos Academy recently held a series of impactful mentorship sessions across five schools, focusing on ‘The Importance of Self-Discipline in Your Chosen Career Path.’ These sessions are a cornerstone of our mission to empower young girls and inspire them to pursue careers in STEM fields. Research indicates that mentored girls are 2.5 times more likely to embark on STEM career paths, making our mentors indispensable in fostering interest and confidence in these areas.

Representation is key; when girls see themselves in STEM roles, their likelihood of pursuing such careers increases by 50%. W.TEC Academy is committed to being a beacon of effective mentorship, equipping young girls with essential tech skills and broadening their career prospects.

Kwara State – Celebrating Girls in ICT

In Kwara State, W.TEC hosted a Career Day at Banni Community Secondary School to commemorate Girls in ICT Day. The event, attended by 65 female students, was a resounding success, featuring insightful discussions and mentorship sessions on ‘Leadership: The Future of Women in Technology.’

Partners and supporters have included Oracle, F5, GlobalGiving, Intel, Lagos State Science and Research Innovation Council (LASRIC), WeTech, Google, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Kwara State Ministry of Education, the National Library Yaba, FEMTECH and SoftTrade.
