Going by the work of W.TEC Academy, we believe in the transformative power of education, especially when it comes to equipping girls with the skills they need to excel in STEM fields. In 2024, we made significant strides in this mission by empowering 66 girls through our specialized after-school programme at Oegun in Lagos.
The W.TEC Academy is a co-curricular initiative by the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) designed to introduce secondary school girls to technology through hands-on learning and practical applications. The program equips participants with foundational and advanced skills in various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, fostering their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
This year’s focus for the programme was on renewable energy, where participants engaged in hands-on projects that bridged theoretical learning with practical applications. The girls successfully designed and built solar phone chargers, rechargeable power banks, and rechargeable lamps. These projects not only deepened their understanding of sustainable technology but also sparked their creativity and problem-solving skills.
