In celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC), in proud collaboration with Oracle and Oracle Academy, hosted inspiring events across Lagos, Abuja, Ilorin, and Akure. Each event celebrated girls’ voices, creativity, and leadership while reinforcing W.TEC’s mission to equip them with the digital skills and confidence to thrive in a technology-driven world.
In Lagos, the event themed “She Solves for Change” brought together over 50 brilliant girls at Lagos City College to explore how technology can drive real-world impact. Guided by this year’s sub-theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” participants presented innovative projects such as Open Book Library, Youth Connect, and Lost and Found. These creative solutions reflected teamwork, leadership, and social awareness. The top winners, led by Favour Solomon, Tasiu Aishat, and their peers, were celebrated for their outstanding ideas. Keynote speaker Ogunfemi Arafat, a software engineer, along with goodwill messages from the Ministry of Education, encouraged the girls to dream boldly, lead confidently, and pursue careers in STEM.
At GSSS Maitama, Abuja, and Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, girls participated in engaging mentorship sessions under the themes “She Solves for Change” and “Choosing a Career: Unlimited Possibilities.” Over 60 students were inspired by distinguished mentors, including Dr. Elizabeth Udofia and Ms. Joy Yakubu, who shared powerful insights on courage, purpose, and leadership. Ms. Yakubu reminded the girls, “You don’t need permission to lead or make an impact — you already have something to offer.” Through these sessions, participants discovered the value of education, mentorship, and resilience in shaping their futures.
In Ilorin, W.TEC hosted a vibrant event at C&S College, Sabo-Oke, where W.TEC Academy alumnae showcased their coding projects using Pictoblox. The mini coding competition featured creative designs like a Dancing Ballerina and Football Game, promoting innovation, teamwork, and confidence among students.
Across all locations, one powerful message resonated — every girl has the power to lead, create, and change her world through technology.
W.TEC extends its heartfelt appreciation to Oracle for their unwavering partnership and support in empowering the next generation of women in technology across Nigeria.
