Empowering the Facilitators: Lagos Team Touches Down in Ilorin for the W.TEC Academy Data Analysis ToT!
The energy was electric as our Lagos team recently hit the road, traveling to the vibrant city of Ilorin to connect with our incredible Kwara team. The mission? To host an intensive and highly interactive Training of Trainers (ToT) session in preparation for the upcoming rollout of the W.TEC Academy programme in Kwara!
Bridging the gap between our regional offices is always a thrilling experience. For this term, the W.TEC Academy is introducing an exciting new curriculum, and we needed to ensure our on-the-ground facilitators were fully equipped. The central focus of this ToT was entirely on our new core subject: Data Analysis.
Diving into Data Analysis with Lesley Tarabina
A successful after-school academy requires a rock-solid, engaging curriculum. That’s where Lesley Tarabina, our Curriculum Development Manager, took the lead.
Lesley guided the Kwara team through the intricacies of the new data analysis modules, moving away from traditional lectures and diving deep into experiential learning. The focus was heavily on practical, hands-on sessions to ensure the facilitators could effectively translate complex data concepts to the students.
Key highlights from Lesley’s sessions included:
- Interactive Data Demonstrations: Facilitators actively participated in data handling and interpretation exercises, experiencing the projects exactly as the W.TEC Academy students will.
- Troubleshooting Analytical Scenarios: Equipping the team with quick-thinking strategies to keep students engaged when working through complex data sets.
- Fostering Critical Thinking: Teaching facilitators how to encourage independent problem-solving and analytical thinking among the girls.
By the end of Lesley’s modules, the Kwara team wasn’t just familiar with the data analysis curriculum—they had mastered the hands-on delivery.
Ensuring Impact with Monsurat Oshinfisan
While delivering a great program is the immediate goal, understanding and measuring the impact of that technical training is what drives our long-term mission. Monsurat Oshinfisan, our dedicated Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer, stepped in to ensure we have the frameworks in place to capture our success.
Monsurat’s training focused on the crucial “how” and “why” of data collection during the academy sessions.
Her training covered:
- Real-Time Feedback Loops: How to gauge student engagement and their grasp of data analysis concepts on a weekly basis.
- Effective Data Collection: Training the team on using M&E tools seamlessly without disrupting the flow of the hands-on tech activities.
- Defining Success: Aligning the Kwara facilitators with our core metrics so everyone knows exactly what a successful academy term looks like in practice.
Monsurat’s sessions empowered the Kwara team to view themselves not just as tech instructors, but as vital contributors to our organization’s growth and impact storytelling.
A Synergy of Two Cities
Beyond the rigorous training, this visit was a beautiful display of teamwork. The synergy between the Lagos and Kwara teams was a reminder of the shared passion that drives W.TEC. Ideas were exchanged, regional nuances were discussed to tailor the academy experience perfectly for the schools in Ilorin, and bonds were strengthened over shared meals and laughter.
Looking Ahead to a Data-Driven Term!
With the data analysis curriculum mastered and the M&E frameworks firmly in place, the Kwara team is officially fired up and ready to go. This ToT session was a massive success, laying a rock-solid foundation for the term ahead.
