The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) proudly announces the
successful conclusion of the 19th edition of its She Creates Camp, operating this year
under the theme “AI, Future Skills and Digital Readiness.” Held from August 9 to 22 at
Laureates College, this two-week residential STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
Arts & Mathematics) immersion—the only residential camp of its kind across the country—
brought together 42 bright and curious girls for an enriching journey of hands-on learning,
creativity, and innovation.
About She Creates Camp She Creates Camp equips secondary school girls with critical
21st-century skills to design and implement useful technological solutions. Through a
blend of technology, arts, and entrepreneurship, participants are empowered to become
innovators and future leaders in the digital economy. Leading up to this flagship Lagos
event, W.TEC successfully expanded its regional impact by hosting two separate, one
week, non-residential camps in Ondo and Kwara states the previous week.
Programme Highlights Throughout the immersive programme, participants engaged in
advanced and interactive sessions designed to build both technical and soft skills,
including:
- Artificial Intelligence, IoT & Software Innovation
- Digital Safety, Cybersecurity & Digital Literacy
- Marine Engineering & Nautical Science
- UGC Content Creation & The Act of Filmmaking
- STEM Careers, Gender & Leadership
- Health & Hygiene, Etiquette & Poise
- Handcrafts (Candle & Diffuser Making)
- Self-Defense, Dance & Exercise
To bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, campers
engaged in two inspiring excursions to gain first-hand exposure to applied technology and
innovation in practice. The girls visited the Lagos State Science Experience Centre (SEC)
under the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology in Alausa, as well as Information
Connectivity Solutions Limited (ICSL) in Lekki.
Facilitators & Mentors This year’s camp featured a diverse and highly accomplished group

Alumnae Network & Mentorship At the closing ceremony, participants were formally
inducted into the growing W.TEC Alumnae Network. They join a vibrant community of past
campers who continue to benefit from ongoing mentorship, workshops, and career
guidance under the leadership of Executive Director Oreoluwa Lesi and the dedicated
W.TEC team.
Recognition & Prizes The camp culminated in a Graduation & Awards Ceremony, where
distinguished participants and exceptional team projects were recognized.

Miss Congeniality (For the girl who was best able to develop and maintain amiable
relationships with others)
Miss Blossom (For the girl who blossomed the most over the course of the camp; typically
from being very withdrawn and quiet to becoming more sociable and assertive with others)
Miss Humour (For the girl with a well-developed sense of humour, who could make the
most serious camper laugh.)

Best overall Camp Participant
The prestigious title of Miss W.TEC 2026 was awarded to Miss Akibu Barakat the most
outstanding overall camper, who will receive a high-profile tech mentorship opportunity to
further nurture her leadership and innovation potential.
