Miss Monsurat Oshinfisan is the newest intern at W.TEC, she is no visitor to W.TEC as she has been a big participant of W.TEC’s programmes right from her days in secondary school, to volunteering with W.TEC’s Camp during her OND programme and other programmes. Monsurat who has done very well for herself rising to the level of President for the Ikoyi Metro – Rotaract Club. In this post she shares with us her first day at work with W.TEC
The first day of my internship with W.TEC started with my early arrival at the new W.TEC’s office which is indeed beautiful. I was given a warm welcome by Miss Adeola Akinyemiju, the Admin/ Finance officer of the organization at the reception where we exchanged a little bit of greetings and pleasantries. Swiftly I climbed the stairs leading to the room of the office room with a warm a smile on my face and vibrancy in every bit of my appearance. Going into the office room was like a bomb about to explode but I summoned courage since I am very familiar with the staffs and also as a communicator you must always shake fear away at all times. I greeted everybody with enthusiasm and it was reciprocated.
Shortly, after the welcoming I was assigned to a desk, chair and a laptop with which I will be carrying out my primary responsibilities, working as an intern with the communications department of W.TEC headed by Mr Adeyemi Odutola, (a very nice and hardworking man who puts me through most of the things I do in W.TEC) and also to assist in writing of articles and updating of the social media pages.
The staffs are wonderful and friendly people who are very committed to their work. With this people the atmosphere of the organization is cheerful, formal and very conducive for a working environment.
W.TEC has always been my dream place to work or volunteer. Ever since my secondary school days (2011 /2013) when I was empowered by the organization. Then I was part of the lucky few who learnt how to use Adobe Premiere Elements 11 for film editing. Thanks to the organization I also attended the 2013 camp where I learnt how to blog, code, use Scratch to make video games and also photography and video making. I emerged Miss Leader after exhibiting my leadership skills at the camp going home with a prize. I volunteered at the camp two years consecutively impacting most of the knowledge I gained from the camp I attended the previous year.
The organization has really helped in building and reshaping lives of so many girls which I also will like to take part in and that is why I joined by working as an intern with them for my SIWES. With the knowledge I gained from school my emphasis is on information and communication which will be of great use in the communication department.
It is exciting for me to contribute my quota to the empowering work of W.TEC which I certainly look forward to doing.
