W.TEC Honoured By Intel

Intel’s SheWillConnect programme recently, celebrated its reach to 5million African women (both online and offline) through its SheWillConnect programme, which empowered and sensitized women on the need to using ICT for their socio-economic development.
In 2013 Intel published the Women and Web report which stated that Women are 45% less than men online. In response to this finding, Intel committed itself to a 5 year program to reduce the internet gender gap in sub Saharan Africa by helping to put the internet within the grasp of women in Africa.
To reduce the internet gender gap, Intel launched its SheWillConnect initiative to partner with local, women-empowering organizations in Sub Sahara Africa to utilize an innovative model that integrates digital literacy, infrastructure, content and a social network with a gender and development programming to advance selected gender and development outcomes.
In Nigeria W.TEC was one of such partners engaged by Intel to implement the program in Nigeria. Since 2013 W.TEC implemented SheWillConnect curriculums to empowering 2000 women and girls through numerous W.TEC’s programs which includes: SHECANWITHICT for ladies at UNILAG and UNIBEN, , W.TEC’s Entrepreneurship & Technology Workshop for entrepreneurial women in various fields across Lagos State, W.TEC Academy for Lagos State Secondary girls and W.TEC’s annual summer Camp for girls from all over Nigeria.
To mark the 5 million milestone in Nigeria, Intel in October 2018, held a gala event in Lagos to celebrate this feat by honouring all its major SheWillConnect partners which included W.TEC, JAN, WITIN, HITECH, WAAW Foundation and others for their support since 2013 to making the impact of the program a reality in Nigeria.
