Lagos, Nigeria – 10th September, 2019:

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre – W.TEC recently held its Early Innovators Camps for Kids (girls & boys) in Lagos Nigeria. The tech camp for kids between the ages of 5 – 10 years, were held in both Lekki and Ikeja in tagged from July to August. The camps subsequently concluded with graduation ceremonies after a 2-week tech fun learning experience alongside other extra-curricular exercises.

The Early Innovators Camp is a non-residential camp designed to harness the innate curiosity of children by introducing them to computing and science concepts through play and exploration, there-by providing them with early inspiration to  solving significant problems around them by exploring  information and communication technology (ICTs).

For the two-week duration of the camp, 37 kids in both camps participated in tech workshops featuring Robotics, Videography and numerous co – curricular activities (including, Self Defence, Team Building and Health well being).

The Early Innovators – Lekki camp was the first edition of the camp while the Lagos-Mainland camp was the third edition of the camp. At the camps our seasoned child instructors supported by Alumnae from our She Creates Camps, taught the children videography with the Story Telling app and used Wedo 2.0 Legos  for teaching the robotics class. The following were the dates of the camps:

  1. The Early Innovators – Lekki camp: July 29 – August 9
  2. The Early Innovators – Lagos-Mainland camp: August 19 – 30

The long-term goal of the camps is to spark and awaken the ICT talents of participants for an early stage, giving them a good start to having a perfect understanding of new technologies as they proceed with their education.

The sponsors of this year’s camps are The Chris Ogunbanjo Foundation, Kiddies Kingdom Private School Lagos, and numerous individuals. Our media supporters for publicity were: Bella Naija, NAN, Tech Cabal, The Nation Newspapers & The Punch Newspapers.
