Our after-school computer club for girls – W.TEC Academy, has commenced classes for the new phase of the program in Ogun State.

The extension of the program to the State for the 2019-2020 school session, starts with 2- secondary schools in Yewa North Local Government Council.

Select, female students in Obalaju High School – Joga Orile and at Yewa-Egba High School – Ilaro, will be treated to numerous ICT workshops to increase the number of tech savvy girls within the community and inspire more girls to studying STEM subjects in their schools, thereby improving the STEM gender gap plaguing our schools and boost the socio- economic opportunities for the girls and their community.

Prior to the extension of the program to Ogun State, W.TEC
has run the program for 3 years in numerous schools across Lagos State in conjunction with Intel. Presently W.TEC is running the Academy in Kwara State in conjunction with Oracle Academy in 14 schools with over 400 girls in Ilorin and Offa.

The W.TEC Academy is an after-school technology club, which presents technology in an engaging way, with the aim of attracting more girls to pursue science and technology careers. The clubs target girls, aged 10 to 17 years, who attend public schools in Nigeria. The students go through a practical and engaging curriculum comprised of programming with Alice and Greenfoot, Mobile Application Development, Computer Architecture, Networking, and Robotics.

The 2019-2020 session of W.TEC Academy in Ogun State is powered by The Rasheed Afonja Trust Fund.
