WTEC CELEBRATES GIRLS IN ICT DAY 2020

As a means to celebrate this year’s International Girls in ICT day, the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) organized a webinar for young girls interested in digital tools and digital skills. The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) – Nigeria celebrated International Girls in ICT Day in collaboration with Community Participation In Sustainable Development (COMPSUDEV) – Cameroon with a webinar.
The webinar was hosted by W.TEC Programmes Manager, Mrs Folashade Braimoh alongside the Head of ICT,(COMPSUDEV), Cameroon, Ms Akumawah Nanga Pierrette.
The online event was held on Thursday, March 23rd, 2020 to help fulfill the purpose of the day and it attracted girls from Nigeria, Cameroon and other part of the world.
International Girls in ICT Day is an initiative of the ITU to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the field of information and communication technologies.
At the webinar, the participants learnt about online learning platforms to help ensure that their education and learning does not stop in this period. Platforms like EDX, Future learn, google, open learning, coursera, codecademy, udemy, USA city, google digital garage, university of the people and others, were shared during the event. Participants also learnt strategies to stay motivated when studying online and an introduction to W.TEC programmes.
Questions were asked and suggestions were made after the webinar. The WTEC team also conducted a survey to weigh the effectiveness of the event and thankfully, it had a positive result.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
