It’s back to school season and the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) is also ready to resume classes for W. TEC Academy, an ICT support programme for secondary school girls.
This term, the Academy would be taking place across the country in over 15 secondary schools based in Lagos and Kwara state with over 500 school girls participating. Our curriculum has been carefully designed for students in these schools to help improve their ICT skill and empower them with necessary information beneficial to their future. Thus, the students will go through a practical and engaging curriculum comprised of programming with scratch programming, video game design and video editing.
To the ensure an effective delivery, the W.TEC team would be hosting a training of trainer’s session (TOT) for all facilitators assigned to various schools. The W.TEC Academy team members has also put in their best to make sure the participating schools have their facilities in good shape for a smooth sailing class for the girls.
W.TEC Academy is an ICT support programme for secondary school girls, which presents technology in an engaging way, with the aim of attracting more girls to pursue science and technology careers. The clubs target girls, aged 10 to 17 years, who attend public schools in Lagos. The students go through a practical and engaging curriculum.
The Academy programme in Kwara State is implemented in collaboration with Oracle. While Academy programme in Lagos State is implemented in collaboration with The Lagos State Science and Research Innovation Council (LASRIC).
