At W.TEC, we remain steadfast in our mission to empower girls with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital age. In line with the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, we recently organized a series of workshops aimed at fostering safer online practices and responsible digital citizenship.

In Lagos, we hosted the Staying Safe Online Techniques for Girls workshop at Lagos City College. The sessions highlighted crucial online safety strategies such as:

πŸ”’ Avoiding Public WiFi for Sensitive Activities – Educating girls on the risks of unsecured networks.
πŸ“Έ Understanding That Deleted Photos Can Still Be Recovered – Raising awareness about the permanence of shared digital content.
🚫 Blocking Unwelcome Interactions – Teaching effective ways to handle harmful interactions online.
❌ Saying NO to Unsolicited Nude Content – Empowering girls to set boundaries and protect themselves from inappropriate requests.

Participants were enthusiastic, engaging deeply with the lessons and showing a growing awareness of the importance of online safety. To complement the digital safety session, we also introduced basic self-defense techniques, reminding them that personal safety extends beyond the digital space.

KWARA STATE

In Kwara State, we extended these efforts by organizing hands-on sessions for participants of the W.TEC Academy. These sessions focused on equipping girls with practical strategies to protect their online privacy, recognize and avoid cyber threats, and report harmful content. Beyond safety, the workshops also emphasized the importance of cultivating a positive digital presence and upholding ethical, respectful, and civil behavior online.

Through interactive activities, participants learned to navigate the complexities of the digital world responsibly while understanding the value of being digital citizens who contribute positively to online communities.

By hosting these workshops across multiple states, W.TEC continues to advance its commitment to empowering young women and girls with the knowledge and skills needed to stay safe online and embrace responsible digital citizenship. Together, we are building a generation of empowered, informed, and confident digital users who can navigate the online world with resilience and responsibility.

This initiative is part of the W.TEC Academy programme implemented in collaboration with F5, ensuring girls across Nigeria are equipped to thrive in the digital landscape while advocating for their safety and rights.
