Innovative Library Service Workshop

The United States Consulate- General, Lagos in conjunction with Goethe Institute and the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) recently held a two-day workshop on Innovative Service Delivery in Libraries and Information Centres.
The workshop is aimed to improve the opportunities for Nigerian Libraries and information centres. The impactful workshop served as an eye opener to 21st-century library services, information gathering and dissemination for librarians and information officers.
The workshop had full-packed sessions on; efficient use of online tools for communication, customer service delivery and policies, use of social media for library services, acceleration of professional growth and career building, online tools for managing library daily activities and application for foreign grants/funding.
During the workshop sessions, the participants interacted with a formation of resource persons drawn from the academia, civil society and public sector. They included: Dr. Victoria Okojie, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Abuja; Ms. Safurat Balogun, Head of Information & Library Services at the Goethe-Institut; Mrs. Oreoluwa Lesi, Executive Director at Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre, and Mr. Samuel Eyitayo, Information Resource Centre Director, United States Consulate General in Lagos.
The workshop featured an interesting session on applying for foreign grants facilitated by our Executive Director Mrs Oreoluwa Lesi, he session was a unique one as this is one are many individuals have not fully utilized in Nigeria.
In conclusion the major objective of the impactful workshop which featured sessions on, leadership management, dealing with conflicts, front desk approachability and attitudes with users, applying for foreign grants and so on is for the select librarians chosen for the workshop to be armed with work strategies that will enable them fulfil the dynamic 21st century needs of their libraries and information centres. The fed back from organizers of the workshop indicated that the innovative workshop did hit its mark.
