The Children’s Development Centre (CDC) in Lagos and the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) has commenced their special partnership programme – Inclusive Technology for All (IT4All) for the 2021 calendar year. The programme is an ICT inclusion scheme tailored for young people with developmental disabilities and special needs, such as Autism and Down’s syndrome. The programme is designed to help integrate technology into the students’ regular activities in order to enable them function better socially and more independently.
CDC & W.TEC has collaborated in the last 3 years to hold skilled intervention classes to help the special students at the CDC to learn the skills they need to live a more productive and independent life. Select students at the school in 3 categories: Preschool(5 -10yrs), School(11 – 17yrs) and Adolescent (18 and above) participate in weekly technology classes in fundamentals of computer, digital puzzles, digital storytelling and robotics. These classes seek to use technology to strengthen learning in the areas of numeracy, literacy and art.
The Children’s Developmental Centre (CDC) is a service-oriented, not-for-profit organisation, dedicated in providing a broad range of educational and support services for children, young people and their families within the community. The centre is developing a local solution to a global problem and is a place where children and young people with developmental disabilities have a “Sense of Belonging”.
It is through the various collaborations and partnerships that CDC, has been able to support children, especially young adults, who have to use what they have, to give the best they can give, that is the real success of the children and the young adults we serve. CDC is committed to ensuring that our clients are able to strive and thrive through making their own decisions, what is being done in their own best interest at the same time being given the same opportunities as everyone else. These are rights that all of us struggle and identify with every day. The CDC also includes projects dotted around the Nation
The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) is a Nigerian nonprofit organisation committed to building a more inclusive technology ecosystem, with the next generation of women technology creators, entrepreneurs and leaders. Our programmes include Science, Technology and Design-themed bootcamps and afterschool clubs for girls and other under-represented youth. Over the last year, our work has expanded to explore how technology can improve learning outcomes and better integrate students with developmental disabilities and special needs, such as Autism and Down’s syndrome.
