Join Our Team: W.TEC is Hiring a Communications Officer and Communications Intern in Lagos

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) is expanding its team to strengthen its communications capacity and amplify the impact of its programmes empowering women and girls across Nigeria. As W.TEC continues to grow its reach and influence, strategic storytelling, media engagement, and digital content creation remain essential to advancing its mission.

To support this work, W.TEC is currently recruiting for two full-time hybrid positions based in Lagos: a Communications Officer and a Communications Intern. These roles offer exciting opportunities for communications professionals and emerging talents to contribute to meaningful social impact while building strong careers in nonprofit communications.

Communications Officer

The Communications Officer will play a central role in shaping and executing W.TEC’s communications strategy. This position is suited for a skilled communications professional who can lead content development, manage digital platforms, and strengthen W.TEC’s public visibility through strategic storytelling and media engagement.

The Communications Officer will be responsible for creating and managing high-quality content across multiple platforms, including the organisation’s website, newsletters, blog, and social media channels. The role also involves developing and implementing communications plans for programmes and campaigns, managing media relationships, supporting press coverage, and documenting programme impact through compelling storytelling. The officer will work closely with programme teams to ensure communications efforts align with organisational goals and effectively highlight W.TEC’s work.

Expected qualifications and requirements include:

  • A degree in Communications, Mass Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in communications, content development, or digital media management
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Experience managing social media platforms and digital communications tools
  • Ability to develop and implement communications strategies and campaigns
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Passion for social impact, technology, and women’s empowerment

This role offers an opportunity to lead communications efforts within a respected nonprofit organisation and contribute to advancing digital inclusion and gender equity.

Communications Intern

The Communications Intern will support W.TEC’s communications activities, particularly in content creation, digital storytelling, and programme documentation. This role is ideal for a student on SIWES placement, recent graduate, or early-career professional seeking hands-on experience in communications within a mission-driven organisation.

The Communications Intern will assist with writing blog posts, creating social media content, supporting newsletter development, documenting programme activities, and helping maintain W.TEC’s digital platforms. The intern will also support communications campaigns and contribute to amplifying programme visibility.

Expected qualifications and requirements include:

  • Polytechnic students on SIWES placement, recent graduates, or early-career professionals
  • Academic background in Communications, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Marketing, or a related field
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital tools
  • Basic graphic design skills using tools such as Canva are an advantage
  • Willingness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Interest in technology, communications, and social impact

This internship provides valuable practical experience and an opportunity to develop professional communications skills while contributing to impactful programmes.

Work Structure and Location

Both the Communications Officer and Communications Intern roles are full-time hybrid positions based in Lagos. These roles combine remote flexibility with in-person collaboration, offering team members the opportunity to work within W.TEC’s dynamic environment while supporting programmes that empower women and girls.
