Our #WCW for this week is one of our extraordinary women who are changing the face of accountability and justice for the average Nigerian. She is no other person but Kiki Mordi whom we will all remember from her work on exposing our shamless Sex for grades lectures in Nigeria and Ghana.
Mordi was born in Port HarcourtRivers State, Nigeria to Nigerian parents. After the death of her father, she gained admission into University of Nigeria, Nsukka to study medicine, but later dropped out due to sexual harassment from a certain lecturer.
Mordi is a Nigerian journalist, media personality, filmmaker and writer. She is currently a BBC Africa Eye reporter and the head of presenting with WFM91.7
In 2017, she started an online petition to end police extortion and exploitation after some Nigerian policemen invaded their home and accused her and her boyfriend of being cultists. Fast forward to 2020 Kiki played a prominent role in the #Endsars movement which has grown to challenging the rot in the Nigerian system for the better.
We are indeed proud of Kiki Mordi and many others like herself whose fearless and selfless approach to standing up against impunity and oppression in the land has began to set us on a path to a new nation. Her example will surely inspire our next generation to do better towards rebuilding a great nation for us.
