More About She Creates 2020

Our first virtual camp for girls tagged She Creates Next has come and gone. This was the 13th edition of W.TEC’s She Creates programme – a summer tech camp programme for girls which has inspired a new generation of tech savvy women. In this write up on the camp we highlight the progress made during its four weeks.

Week 1
The first week of the camp featured mobile apps design using. The course was facilitated by Nifesimi Oso. Nifesimi has been a facilitator with W.TEC in the past 3-years, tutoring students in ICT courses. The week long class had the girls learn how to design mobile applications that they can use to solve community challenges around them. According to a participant who built an app which conduct a quiz on current events.According to the participant she believes she can now build her own mobile applications and pretty soon she is going to launch app which could help her school mates with tutorials of subjects they are studying in school. During the week our guest speaker Oiza baiye a seasoned programmer based in Canada, shared her educational journey to  becoming a programmer and she also shared with our girls the various fields of programming they can consider.
Week 2
The second week of the camp featured video editing with the use of  your mobile phone using Inshot. The course was facilitated by Adeyemi Odutola. Adeyemi is the Communications Officer at W.TEC, he is a certified Video editing facilitator by the Adobe youth Foundation and has facilitated numerous video editing classes for W.TEC in the last 7years. The week long class had the girls learn edit standard videos with their mobiles and how to share them on social media plus other personal or business reasons. According to a participant who edited a rendintion of a peom, she sees video editing as a possible future vocation, and she see also believes she can now set up her own youtube channel.
Also during the week our guest speaker, Adebimpe Adebambo a multifaceted and dynamic artist to deliver a talk with our participants on the art of Film Making and Animation. Shared with our girls from her wealth of experience on film making and animation with participants of our virtual camp for girls. In the course of her presentation she presented the production process of animation, types of animation, realty of animation in Nigeria, its business opportunities and its future in the country.
 
Week 3
The third week of the camp featured python programming. The course was facilitated by Moses Oghene. Moses has facilitated with W.TEC who has tutored students in ICT courses in the last 3 years. The week long class had the girls learn how to put together the computer language and codes which is used for set up all computer daily task such as artificial intelligence A.I, computer applications Web design, 3D applications, Data analysis, and others. The short of it all is that the course gives our participants a good command of computer applications. The week long class had the girls learn work flow of putting together the codes of computer programming and how they could put their their new skills to good use.
According to a participant who produced an app which could compute quadratic equations said her new her new skills can possibly solve many of her problems and also believes that she can become a seasoned programmer in the nearest future.
During the week, our  guest speaker Tracy Ezebuike, spoke on Careers in ICT. Her session gave our girls a good insight into careers in ICT.
 
Week 4
The fourth week of the camp featured Website design. The course was facilitated by Moses Oghenero. Moses has facilitated with W.TEC who has tutored students in ICT courses in the last 3 years. The week long class had the girls learn how to put together the computer language and codes which is used for set up all computer daily tasksuch as artificial intelligence A.I, computer applications,  Web design, 3D applications, Data analysis, and others. The short of it all is that the course gives our participants a good command of computer applications. The week long class had the girls learn work flow of putting together the codes of computer programming and how they could put their their new skills to good use.
According to a participant who built a website for herself during the class indicated that with her new skills she can build a website for her blog  and possibly establish her own website development company.
Also during the week, our guest speaker Preye Egbolibe, facilitated a session on team bonding. Her session helped our girls appreciated the art and gains of team bonding and spoke on Careers in ICT. Her session gave our girls a good insight into careers in ICT.
 
Graduation
Upon completion of the programme the camp was rounded-off with a graduation ceremony was held online with all participants in attendance alongside their parents and W.TEC’s staff. During the programme, the Executive Director Mrs Oreoluwa Lesi in her welcome address highlighted the innovative edge of the virtual camp to the participants and their parents. The online ceremony featured presentations by participants on all what they have learnt during the camp. Parents also share their heartwarming impact stories of the children, testimonies by the parents. According to one of the parents the camp has made my daughter have a good advantage in both learning and the possibility to making money with her new skills , I will surely recommend the camp to everyone’’.  During the programme the girls were invited to join W.TEC’s Alumnae Network, where they will be kept, up to date with the future of W.TEC and other workshops that could build-up their technical skills and get to network with other camp alumnae from 2008 ‘till present.
