Why She Talks Tech?
In recent years, technology has become an increasingly important part of our daily lives. However, the tech industry has historically been male-dominated, making it challenging for women to enter and thrive in this field. That’s why there’s a growing need for a tech talk show that caters to women, providing them with a platform to discuss technology topics that are relevant to them.
One of the primary objectives of a tech talk show for women is to inspire and empower them to pursue careers in technology. The show feature profiles of women who have made significant contributions to the tech industry, sharing their stories of success and the challenges they faced along the way. Showcasing these inspiring stories, the show cis set to motivate women to pursue careers in technology and give them the confidence they need to succeed.
Another essential aspect of a tech talk show for women would be to address the unique challenges that women face in the tech industry. For example, the show could discuss the issue of gender bias in the workplace, as well as ways to combat it. The show could also explore topics like work-life balance for women in tech, the importance of mentorship, and strategies for advancing in one’s career.
Overall, the tech talk show for women would be a valuable resource for women who are interested in technology, whether they are already working in the field or just starting. By providing information, insights, and inspiration, the show could help bridge the gender gap in the tech industry and empower women to pursue careers in this exciting and rapidly evolving field.
Why She Talks Tech?
W.TEC has made significant in-roads in contributing to public policy. W.TEC worked as part of a sub-committee of Gender, Science, Technology and Innovation experts, to review and help re-draft parts of the science and technology policy. W.TEC was also invited to join a team of experts to draft a policy document for broadband deployment in Nigeria and which would form the preliminary document of the National Broadband Plan.
W.TEC leverages on our our primary research (based on data collected from our training programmes) and secondary data (collated from other sources) for our advocacy work. We create awareness of the scope of the gender inequities within technology using factsheets and infographs produced from our research and start conversations with state actors and other stakeholders to advocate for appropriate policies and interventions.
Recent policy advocacy engagemenst include:
Advocacy Visit to Lagos State Ministry of Education: W.TEC paid an advocacy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Education in July 2023, where we met with the Permanent Secretary and several key directors within the Ministry. W.TEC shared information about the gender gap that exists in STEM globally and in Nigeria. We also shared the work that W.TEC has been doing over the last 15 years to help close this gap, as well as the impact of our programmes. We made the case for greater partnership with the State and the Education Ministry to make training opportunities more widely available across Lagos State.
