W.TEC Academy Kwara State Trains 361 Girls in 2021

W.TEC Academy, our technology co-curricular programme for secondary school girls in Kwara State  has wrapped for 2021. A total of 361 girls participated in the trainings at both Offa and Ilorin.
The following were proceedingds of the programme in 2021. Schools within Kwara state resumed on 20th September, 2021. On the first week of resumption, all volunteers were at their respective schools to pay courtesy visits to the principals and also inform them about the W.TEC Academy resumption. A total number of 361 girls registered to participate in the academy and a pre-evaluation and pre-test were conducted to test their knowledge. Classes commenced fully by 6th October, 2021 with Video -Editing and Scratch taught for the term. For this term we had 12 schools running the academy with 4 based in Offa and 8 in Ilorin.
Two remarkable events were celebrated with the girls this term. They were International Day of the Girl Child which was celebrated on Monday 18th October at Government Day Secondary School Adeta and 16 Days of Activism celebrated with girls at Government Day Secondary School Tanke. Both events took place in Ilorin and had a total number of 80 girls in attendance.  At Offa, we will be celebrating the 16 Days of Activism with girls at St. Claire’s Anglican Girls Grammar School on 8th of December 2021.  The event had 200 girls in attendance.
The term ended with girls enrolled in the academy learning and brilliantly showcasing their acquired skills in Scratch for the most part as many centres were unable to install Openshot software for teaching video editing on their schools’ computers.
Our W.TEC Academy programme in Kwara State is done in collaboration with Oracle which has been gracious to our W.TEC Academy programme in the last couple of years. We thank them for their amazing support.
Also like to extend our gratitude to programme partners in Kwara State ( Kwara State Ministry of Education and National Library Ilorin Branch ) whose co-operation has been invaluable for our girls in the State.
