W.TEC’s highly successful after school computer club for girls W.TEC Academy, opened a new chapter in Ilorin, Kwara State for the 2017 – 2018 session after operating for 3 years in Lagos State secondary schools.
W.TEC Academy which is an after school initiative of W.TEC supports computer education in schools with comprehensive curriculums and practical sessions to help upgrade the exposure of girls to good quality ICT education in public schools with the aim to attract and inspire more girls to studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) courses.
The Ilorin programme which commenced in January 2018 was conducted in 7 secondary schools in the Kwara State capital with a total of 140 select girls who participated sessions on introduction to basics of computer which was followed by practical sessions on all Microsoft office tools.
According to our evaluation of the session of the programme 33% of participants indicated their interest in pursing a stem related course which they hadn’t considered before the programme while 60% participants improved their use of computer skills during he programme.
The Academy is set to continue its impactful programme for the 2018/2019 session where more advanced computer skills will be treated with our participants.
