W.TEC AND EMERSON GLOBAL SUCCESSFULLY HOST “IGNITE YOUR POTENTIAL” MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME AT BOLA IGE MILLENNIAL SECONDARY SCHOOL

LAGOS, NIGERIA – June 26, 2025 – The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC), in strategic collaboration with Emerson Nigeria, is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of its transformative Mentorship Programme at Bola Ige Millennial Secondary School in Tolu Complex Ajegunle, Olodi Apapa, Lagos. Held on June 23, 2025, the event, themed “Ignite Your Potential, successfully engaged 36 enthusiastic participants, comprising 24 girls and 12 boys, in a day of empowerment and skill development.

The programme’s comprehensive agenda was meticulously designed to inspire and equip the young attendees:

  • Welcome & Introduction: The event commenced with a warm welcome from Emerson staff, Ms. Queensly, provided an insightful overview of Emerson’s operations in Nigeria, detailing the diverse industries their services support.
  • Energizer & Ice Breakers: Kabirat Oduntan from W.TEC, serving as the event’s anchor, led dynamic and interactive sessions that effectively fostered a comfortable and engaging atmosphere among the participants.
  • Mentorship Session – “From Curiosity to Career”: Emerson staff shared invaluable insights into translating curiosity into successful career pathways. In her compelling welcome address, Ms. Zino highlighted her personal journey into STEM, attributing her success to a curious nature. She urged students to cultivate their curiosity, emphasizing its role in becoming effective problem-solvers and contributing to societal success.
  • Accelerate Action Challenge: Moses Oghene from W.TEC facilitated an engaging 45-minute challenge, prompting participants to demonstrate critical thinking and decisive action.
  • Commitment Statement (Mantra): Emerson staff guided participants through a powerful 5-minute session to create personal commitment mantras, aiding in the internalization of their learnings.
  • Programme Close: The day’s activities concluded on a high note, leaving participants visibly inspired.

A pivotal segment of the programme was the highly anticipated Team Problem Solving Workshop. Participants were strategically divided into 6 groups, each consisting of four girls and two boys, and tasked with addressing a real-world scenario challenge.

The workshop’s structure included:

  • Brainstorming (20 minutes): Groups diligently collaborated to brainstorm and devise innovative solutions to the presented problem.
  • Solution Presentation (30 minutes): Each group then confidently delivered a 5-minute presentation of their innovative solutions to a distinguished panel of judges.

Following all presentations, the judges meticulously evaluated each group’s performance against predefined criteria, utilizing a comprehensive score sheet, to identify the most outstanding group presentation. The winning group was presented with a scholarship to W.TEC’s She Creates Summer Camp.
