The WSIS Prizes 2020 is an exceptional international recognition of WSIS Stakeholders as Winners and Champions for their excellence in supporting the implementation of WSIS outcomes, in particular WSIS Action Lines supporting achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The WSIS Prizes contest was developed in response to requests from the WSIS stakeholders to create an effective mechanism to evaluate projects and activities that leverage the power of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to advance sustainable development. Since inception, the contest of WSIS Prizes has attracted hundreds of thousands of stakeholders.
For the awards, stakeholders are invited to consult the rules for project submission and nomination criteria at the WSIS Prizes website. All WSIS Stakeholders were encouraged to submit ICT projects they believe should be recognized and promoted, and for which they do not necessary hold ownership of.
Out of 352 nominated ICT SUCCESS STORIES from around the world, following a comprehensive review by the EXPERT GROUP of 776 projects submitted by the WSIS Stakeholders’ community, and a review of more than 2 million votes cast, W.TEC emerged among the top five, most voted in (Category 3 – Access to information and knowledge).
Being among the close runners-up to the winner, this earned W.TEC a ”Champion” status with WSIS Prizes 2020. Such Champions are celebrated and their work promoted globally in appreciation of their impact. Later on this year the great work of the Champions will also be recognized by the WSIS community at the WSIS Prizes 2020 Ceremony slated for Geneva.
Appreciation of w.TEC’s work can be viewed on the WSIS website alongside other initiatives from around the world: WSIS Champions webpage .
Once more W.TEC will like to appreciate the recognition of the WSIS community for the 2020 WSIS Prizes.
