W.TEC Marks 2021 International Day of the Girl Child

Once again, W.TEC joined the world in recognition  of the rights of girls and the unique challenges girls face around the world today.

We have come a long way empowering over 13,000 women and girls with numerous ICT skills, in our mission to close the STEM gender gap.

There is still so much to be done for the Nigerian Girl Child, so let’s join hands together to forge ahead in making the country a better place for our girl child.

For 2021, W.TEC marked the day with a a series of events across the country in both Lagos and Kwara States. Lets now find out how the events went down:

Lagos State

W.TEC yesterday marked her International Day of the Girl Child in Lagos State by holding a panelist session with participants of W.TEC Academy at the participating schools of programme in Lagos State.

The panelist sessions featured gender leadership talks centering on the the theme for the 2021 International Day of the Girl Child.

The main event of the day was held at Igbaja girls Grammar school, Surulere featured Folashade Braimoh and Maryam Abdulsalam who both are Programme Managers at W.TEC.

Their presentations centred on gender leadership, opportunities in technology for girls, dispelling of STEM myths against girls in line with the theme for this year’s celebration “Digital Generation, Our Generation”.

Kwara State

In Kwara State, celebrating the uniqueness of the girl child, the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) also marked the International Day of the Girl Child with 150 Secondary school girls who are participants of our technology co-curricular programme, – W.TEC Academy in Kwara State on Monday, October 18, 2021.

The event was marked with a discussion session in accordance to this year’s theme: “Digital generation. Our generation.” Topics like gender leadership, opportunities in technology for girls, and dispelling myths about STEM were also treated.
