Recently, we celebrated the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child with a memorable event held at Gbaja Senior and Junior Secondary Schools, where we brought together 100 young students to highlight their potential and creativity. The day was filled with activities that allowed the students to showcase their skills and innovation. Through poetry, presentations, and group projects—such as an impressive emergency app concept—the girls demonstrated their talent and passion for making a difference.
This empowering event was enriched by the presence of esteemed guests, including Mrs. Bekere Amasoma from Oracle and Ini-Obong Antaih from Lafarge, who each provided the girls with valuable insights into building fulfilling careers in STEM fields. Their words of encouragement and advice on overcoming challenges in traditionally male-dominated sectors were both motivating and impactful.
Our Executive Director, Mrs. Oreoluwa Lesi, spoke about W.TEC’s ongoing mission to inspire and equip young girls with the skills and confidence to pursue careers in technology. She emphasized the importance of nurturing their ambitions and ensuring they have access to educational resources that foster creativity and technological competence.
The event left a lasting impression on both participants and guests alike. The students engaged wholeheartedly, taking away essential knowledge and a renewed belief in their capabilities. It was a truly transformative experience that reinforced our commitment to empowering the next generation of women leaders in technology and innovation.
