The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) collaborated with Lafarge Africa PLC to mark 2021 – International Day of Women and Girls in Science on Thursday February 11th with a virtual career fair for secondary school girls in select 10 schools across Nigeria. Each school had 20girls totaling 200 in attendance from Lagos, Gombe and other states.
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is a day is set aside by the UN to promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls. The global theme this year is; “Women Scientists at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19”.
The event featured leading women at Lafarge plus their top management executives, who presentations centered around how to successfully pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) alongside their own experiences to finally achieving their goals.
Some of the speakers included; Dr Amarachukwu Allison (first Doctor to detect COVID-19 in Nigeria), Olufolake Abosede, Magali Anderson, Titilope Oguntuga, Fambrose, Medebem, and Khaled El Dokani, Managing Dir/CEO at Lafarge Africa PLC.
We at W.TEC have been committed to this course of promoting full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls since inception and we proud to have inspired many girls and women to become scientists from the over 31,000 we have trained and empowered.
We are proud to have joined Lafarge Africa PLC to inspiring Nigerian girls from across the country with technology to hold a virtual fair on women successfully working in STEM fields.
