The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre(W.TEC) MentorHer programme2020 held her first monthly webinar for new set of Mentees on Thursday, November 19, 2020 which was centered on the topic: “THE CREATIVE ME – HOW TO DEVELOP THE RIGHT IDEA FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL SELF”. The webinar was hosted by W.TEC Programme Manager, Mrs Maryam Abdulsalam alongside one of the MentorHer Mentor and a Technology Entrepreneur, Basia Nasiorowska as the speaker.
The event which is one of the activities of the MentorHer, was aimed at building the knowledge of the Mentees on crucial issues which include: the myth of creative success reserved for some “geniuses”, personality – the key to success, dreams and visions and how to get on with it, then the process of constructing a plan.
As a means to achieve the goals of the programme, the speaker, Basia spoke beautifully well as she addressed the participants in relatable terms. She encouraged the mentors on the need to set realistic goals and a plan for execution. While explaining she said; “the unachievable is achievable with pursuing your goals execution”.
Basia went further to explain using the SMART Goal Model. This model helps to guide in goal setting as it states that a goal must be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-framed. She said “Staying in our comfort zone means no growth”.
The webinar covered a wide range of issues youth are likely to deal with when building a career with the right vision and passion. The event enlightened participants on how to identify and manage different personalities.
The event was indeed a successful and an interesting one with Mentees, Mentors and staff of W.TEC in attendance. Another webinar is in progress for the coming month and we would be pleased to share with you.
