Lagos, Nigeria – May 14, 2025 – The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC), in partnership with Oracle, is set to host the 9th edition of its International Girls in ICT Day celebration in Lagos. This year’s event, themed “Girls in ICT for Inclusive Digital Transformation,” will take place on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), 6 Edmund Crescent, Yaba, Lagos.
The event will bring together 200 girls from 10 secondary schools on the Lagos Mainland who are participants of the W.TEC Academy – a technology education programme aimed at equipping girls with critical ICT skills. This year’s theme aligns with global efforts to promote inclusivity and equity in the digital transformation agenda, ensuring that girls are not left behind in the fast-evolving tech-driven world.
The 2025 edition promises an engaging and empowering programme, featuring a keynote address on “Inclusive Digital Transformation” by Mrs. Bekere Amasoma, a respected leader in technology and inclusion. The day will also include project presentations from the participating schools, an interactive mentorship breakout session with leading women in tech, and testimonials from educators and instructors showcasing the impact of the W.TEC Academy.
Oreoluwa Lesi, Executive Director of W.TEC, will deliver the welcome address, setting the tone for a day of inspiration, learning, and celebration. Dignitaries from the Lagos State Ministry of Education are also expected to give goodwill messages, affirming the government’s support for empowering girls through ICT.
The highlight of the day will be the presentation of prizes to outstanding project teams, facilitated by representatives from Oracle and W.TEC, followed by a group photograph and closing remarks by Miss Oluwanifesimi Oso, a W.TEC youth leader.
The event reaffirms W.TEC’s commitment to bridging the gender digital divide and expanding opportunities for girls to thrive in ICT careers.
