W.TEC SET TO CELEBRATE THE 2021 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD WIITH HER ACADEMY GIRLS

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) is set to mark the 2021 – International Day of the Girl Child on the week of October 11, 2021. This day is set aside by the United Nations to recognize girls’ – rights and unique challenges girls face around the world. The theme for this year’s edition is: “Digital generation. Our generation.”
As an organisation focused on empowering women and girls, W.TEC plans on marking this special day with a series of engaging discussion sessions and other fun activities for 750 female students of the W.TEC Academy, our technology co-curricular programme for girls in secondary schools, which currently runs in Lagos and Kwara States.
W.TEC will partner with the Lagos State Ministry of Education (Host) in Lagos State and with the Kwara State Ministry of Education (Host) in Kwara State.
The events will feature guest speakers and female teachers from each of the schools, whose presentations will center on the following:
- Life experiences in overcoming challenges as a girl and excelling in their various fields.
- Dispelling myths against girls and women in STEM.
- The new digital experience for girls, challenges, rights and opportunities.
- Mentorship on how girls are to conduct themselves in society and on the internet.
- Q&A Session.
