The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (WTEC) recently held the inauguration for her MentorHER 2020 – 2021 pogramme which is slated for 6 months is featuring and Mentees majorly from across Nigeria and Mentors from all over world.
W.TEC’s MentorHER Programme is aimed at supporting young women studying STEM courses at the tertiary level, sharing important technical tips and life skills, which will be instrumental in helping them succeed as technology professionals. This mentoring programme will provide a platform for the young women to gain first-hand knowledge from experienced women in technology fields, so they start and navigate their careers in a more informed and strategic manner.
During the inaugural webinar, our Executive Director, MrsOreoluwaLesi highlighted the academic and professional gains for mentees via the MentorHerprogramme, stating how participants will get a good head start for the their intended career right from school.
The MentorHerprogramme is designed to mentor Nigerian females studying STEM courses in higher institutions.Our MentorHer 2020 Programme Coordinator, Mrs Maryam Ibraheemstated that lessons learnt from the pilot phase will guarantee a more successful programmefor the participants of the new cycle.
A Mentee from the previous phase of MentorHer, Mary,mentioned how tough it was getting a female mentor in STEM that could guide her in her career.Thankfully to W.TEC mentorship, she was able to get mentored by a successful woman working in STEM whose experience really encouraged her.
To aid proper communication and bonding between Mentors and Mentees, the MentorHer 2020 Programme Coordinator, Mrs Maryam presented to the new Mentees and Mentors how they will engage each other wonderfully by keeping appointments and setting goals for the mentorship.
Right from the call for Mentors & Mentees for the new cycle of WTEC MentorHer, the programme has drawn participants from all over Nigeria and the world. Thus we are looking forward to a great impact for our next generation of STEM Divas.
