The annual global campaign – “16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women” is here again. Slated for (November 25 – December 10) is set aside to create a sustained awareness for the fight against gender based violence.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
W.TEC supports this campaign annually by organizing programmes in conjunction with partners to empower women and girls with skills and techniques to staying safe Online.
For 2020, W.TEC is supporting the 16 Days of Activism by embarking on a campaign to raise awareness of the challenges women and girls face while surfing the internet during these times and also to highlight sexual assault on little girls.
Thus, the following is our planned programme for this year’s campaign on our social media channels through which we shall be bringing to you meaning insightful messaging, videos, interviews and solutions to the subject:
- Week 1 (November 25 – 27) Techniques for girls to “staying-safe on the internet”.
- Week 2 (November 30 – December 4) Online threats faced by ladies on the internet during the lockdown.
- Week 3 (December 7 – 10) A conversation on why some girls (aged 7 and below) are getting sexually assaulted by men.
The set programmes for the 3 weeks of the campaign will feature partners who will contribute to the campaign from their wealth of experience to make it an impactful one.
We urge everyone to follow our social media channels through which we shall be take you on an educational journey over the next 3-weeks that will be help our ladies and girls learn how to surf the internet more safely.
The global theme for this year’s campaign is; “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”.
